San Antonio FC announced the signings of two new players on Wednesday afternoon, adding to the list of SAFC players with Texas ties. Defenders Fejiro Okiomah and Milton Palacios will suit up for the black and silver this season, joining Stephen McCarthy and Max Gunderson in competing for a starting spot on the back line.

Okiomah played the 2015 season with USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds, making 21 appearances and racking up 1,363 minutes. The 25 year old Austin native said in a press release,

“I’m extremely excited to join SAFC. There’s nothing better than coming back to your home state and representing it at a professional level. I know the expectations that the club, the city, and most importantly the fans have for this team, and I will give all I have for the crest and the community to make sure we are successful from day one.”

Palacios is a name that San Antonio Scorpions fans may remember as he spent the last part of 2015 with the club. The 27 year old Honduran right back made 14 appearances and played 1,200 minutes with the former tenants of Toyota Field. In a press release, Coach Darren Powell said of Palacios,

“Milton is a very athletic right back. He fits the kind of playing style we want to play this upcoming season. He has the ability to join in on the attack, and he is also a very good 1 v 1 defender. He should be exciting to watch for the fans this season.”

It can be difficult to get too hyped up about defensive signings, but the players under contract so far seem to be experienced and ready to contribute to the team by providing clean sheets. With experience on the back line and Rafa in the midfield, SAFC could fill in the rest of the pieces with anything from explosive raw prospects to veterans that may or may not play 90 minutes. At this point I’m done guessing and being wrong about what Holt and Powell plan to do roster-wise, but I’m confident in saying they want to win this year and make a statement quickly. Sacramento Republic FC won the league their first year in USL and SAFC seems determined to follow their lead to a 2016 championship.
