Dust off your boots San Antonio, Spurs Sports and Entertainment will be holding open tryouts for its new USL team. Head coach Darren Powell will be in attendance to scout the local talent that turns out. Powell’s experience as a successful college coach for several schools and academy coach for Major League Soccer’s Orlando City SC gives him a great understanding of how to evaluate and coach players with little professional experience.

Players should come ready to compete though. USL is the third tier of North American professional soccer and boasts a significant amount of talented players. With San Antonio pushing for MLS expansion, its unlikely that Coach Powell and staff will be settling much in their quest to fill a roster. Time isn’t on their side however as the season begins in March.

The open tryouts will be Friday, February 5th 2016 at 8 a.m. at Toyota Field and STAR Soccer Complex. Those wishing to compete need to register on the team’s website.
